I used to visit sick people at the Military University Hospital Prague, particularly in the department for veterans. Several times I visited a veteran Joseph T. Whenever I visited him, he did not want me to bring him anything. As he said: "They take care of me here." However, he always wanted me to pray with him. And so we prayed together as follows:
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. “(Matthew 6:9-13)
“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”
“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen."
Even though he was 90 years old he always remembered us praying together. Once when
I came to visit Mr. Joseph, he had to lie down because he was weak. He again asked me to pray with him. This time, after the prayer, he said: “In this room there is no cross depicted. My cross is there.” And he pointed toward the window. “You know, the wooden frame forms a cross. To Him I turn. There I imagine Christ’s crucified body.”
I was struck by his great faith. I said to myself: I will create “the Window Cross”, a symbol of faith. In this precious symbol of the cross, our happiness is built. I believe that just as the veteran Joseph did.
(Window cross may be hanged on the curtains, in the car, on the wall, key, clothes, … Adalbertady)
